Lazy days on Salt Spring....

When you put bubble bath in a jetted tub....

Our little cabin had a jetted tub that proved to be very popular with the kids. I don't think they've ever bathed as often as they did on Salt Spring!

First day on Salt Spring Island.....

After a short and sunny ferry ride from Swatz Bay we arrived on Salt Spring Island and found our way to our sweet little cabin tucked into the trees not far from Fulford Harbour.

Lost and Found Guest House was pretty much perfect. Perched at the top of a gently sloping meadow surrounded by alders and a few towering Douglas Fir, with it's cedar board and batten siding, metal roof and cute red door, it was almost as if someone had plucked it from my dreams :) Inside the cabin had simple white walls dotted with colourful art, fir beams and floors and cosy little nooks squeezed into every window bay. There was a wood burning stove that smelled amazing when we lit it in the evenings and a huge loft where the kids slept and played. I didn't want to leave! And if I ever get to build a cabin in the woods you can bet that it'll be a lot like this little place!

After settling in and exploring our little island home we set off to town to get some nosh. Ganges is the only town on Salt Spring Island and it couldn't be much prettier! Aside from the lovely little shops and cafes it has a leafy park with a playground, a harbour, marina, little sandy coves and a rocky sea wall. It was so warm it almost felt like summer and with the kids all wearing wellies we walked all over town trying to find each kid a pair flip flops to see us through the next five days of sea side exploring.

A morning in Sidney....

We just returned from five lovely days on Salt Spring Island. We loved every minute spent exploring the magical forests and secret coves and I've got more photos than I know what to do with! I thought I'd try to break things up for blogging purposes. Here are a few photos from the day before we headed across the Salish Sea to Salt Spring, these were taken in Sidney by the Sea, a very pleasant little sea side town just a few minutes drive from Victoria airport.
We spent the morning strolling the sea walk and visiting the Shaw Ocean Discovery Centre, a sweet little aquarium featuring only species found in local waters. The sun was shining, the grass was so green and tulips and daffodils were blooming everywhere. It was all quite a pleasant shock to our senses after leaving brown, beige and gritty early-spring Alberta!
